FOLLY BEACH SURFING:

also known as "The Edge Of America" is a 7-mile long natural barrier island on the Atlantic coast. Folly Beach is located just eight miles south of historic downtown Charleston, SC (15 min via "The Connector" or Highway 30).

Folly Beach is the home of sea, sand, and surfing, historical and cultural sites; a maritime forest; Morris Island Lighthouse, great food, great times, and southern hospitality.

During the day you can enjoy the best surfing and water-sports including fishing, crabbing and shrimping or just take it easy relaxing on the beach.  In the evening you can take advantage of the easy access to the restaurants and night-life Charleston promises. The short drive to downtown Charleston adds to the appeal of Folly Beach, which consists of predominately residential housing, limited business, and several miles of walking beach. It is laid back and rustic, casual to the core.

"The Washout" on Folly Beach is one the top spots for surfing on the east coast. Folly also hosts a number of surfing contests every year including the Wahine Contest in May.

While the "Washout" is considered to have some of the best waves on Folly Beach, there are several other great spots popular among surfers.
